California’s native Red oak is a hardwood that burns slowly and evenly. The aromatic smoke generated by the smoldering chips imparts the distinct character of the terroir of California’s Central Coast; a mellow sweet flavor that is low in tannins.




People cannot understand why I am so adamant about red oak for bbq. But if you grew up in the SM/Orcutt area, every Saturday you could drive down Broadway, smell the bbq being sold as fund raisers on those big pits and you knew it was the best smell in the world!
Visiting home always included a trip to the Far Western (at least once). Again that scrumptious smell…
My parents are gone now, and trips are less frequent. I do stock up when we travel, pinquitos, seasonings, and red oak chips (a suitcase full). I’m so grateful we can order items that bring back wonderful memories.
Stock up everybody on the best smoking chips in the world-Suzie Q’s red oak chips! Love using it for copper River salmon and steaks! Great addition to barbecuing Seabass on the Weber charcoal grill!
Great subtle flavor. I use on propane grill with multiple smoker boxes. I always let smoke flavor mature in the fridge after cooking. So goid!.
These super high quality red oak chips are perfect for my vertical smoker. Tastes just like the tri tip was cooked on an authentic Santa Maria Pit Bar B Q.
We left the Santa Maria valley over 20yrs ago and anyone that has knows that are somethings you just always miss, fortunately Susies Q's has done an incredible job of supplying products that fill that need.
